Terms of Service

Last updated: July 8, 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Buckethead, Inc. (“Survival Box,” “we,” “us”) governing your use of the Survival Box app and website (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

Survival Box is not an emergency service. It does not contact 911, police, fire, or medical services, and it is not a substitute for them. In any emergency, call 911 (or your local emergency number) first.

The Service depends on things outside anyone's control — device power, network availability, GPS accuracy, and operating-system behavior. Locations may be stale, alerts may be delayed or missed, and messages may not be delivered. Use Survival Box as one layer of your family's preparedness, never the only one.

1. Who can use Survival Box

You must be at least 16 years old to create a Survival Box+ account. Children under 16 may participate only through profiles created and managed by a parent or legal guardian within the parent's household, as described in our Privacy Policy. If you set up the app for a child, you represent that you are that child's parent or legal guardian.

2. The Service

Survival Box is an emergency preparedness tool: offline storage for important information, offline maps, supply planning, reference guides, and — with a Survival Box+ subscription — encrypted cloud backup and household coordination, including location sharing and an Emergency Mode for coordinating with the people you choose.

Government alert features relay publicly issued alerts (such as those from the U.S. National Weather Service and local authorities). We do not author these alerts and cannot guarantee their completeness, accuracy, or timeliness. Official government channels — including Wireless Emergency Alerts delivered by your carrier — remain your authoritative source.

3. Not medical advice

Survival guides, first-aid references, and medical information storage are educational references only. They are not professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and are not a substitute for professional care. Always seek the advice of qualified medical professionals, and in a medical emergency, call 911.

4. Your account and your keys

Survival Box+ uses passwordless sign-in via email codes. You're responsible for maintaining access to your email address and for the security of your devices.

Your sensitive content is end-to-end encrypted with keys that exist only on your devices and those of your household. If you lose access to all of your devices, your recovery phrase and your household members are the only ways to restore your encrypted data. We cannot read, reset, or recover your encrypted content — that's the design. Keep your recovery phrase safe.

5. Subscriptions

  • Survival Box+ is an auto-renewing annual subscription purchased through Apple. The price and any free-trial terms are shown in the app and in Apple's purchase sheet before you buy.
  • Your subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel anytime in your device's subscription settings (Settings → your Apple account → Subscriptions).
  • If a free trial is offered, unused trial time is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
  • Billing, refunds, and payment disputes are handled by Apple under Apple's terms. We never receive your payment details.
  • Family plans cover the household members described in the app at purchase time; seats are managed in the app.
  • If your subscription ends, cloud features stop, but the data on your device remains yours and remains accessible.

6. Your content

Everything you store in Survival Box — documents, photos, medical details, messages, plans — is yours. You grant us only the limited license needed to operate the Service: to store, transmit, and back up your content (in encrypted form where the Privacy Policy says so) and to share it with the household members and Readiness Team connections you choose.

Sharing is deliberate but real: content you share with your household or a Readiness Team connection becomes visible to those people, and copies may remain on their devices after you disconnect — the same way a message you sent stays with its recipient. Share accordingly.

You're responsible for what you store and share, including having the right to share other people's information (like a family member's medical details) that you enter.

7. Acceptable use

Don't misuse the Service. That includes: using it for any unlawful purpose; harassing or harming others through it; attempting to access other users' accounts or data; probing, disrupting, or reverse-engineering the Service or its security and encryption features (except where the law permits); reselling it; or using it to build a competing service. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

8. Termination

You can stop using the Service or delete your account at any time in the app. We may suspend or terminate your access for violation of these Terms or where required by law; where practical, we'll give you notice and a chance to export your data. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (including disclaimers, limitations of liability, and indemnity) survive.

9. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WITHOUT LIMITING THE FOREGOING, WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, TIMELY, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE; THAT LOCATIONS, ALERTS, OR MESSAGES WILL BE ACCURATE, CURRENT, OR DELIVERED; OR THAT THE SERVICE WILL FUNCTION IN ANY PARTICULAR EMERGENCY. YOU ASSUME FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS AND RESPONSE DECISIONS.

10. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, BUCKETHEAD, INC. AND ITS OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND SUPPLIERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES — INCLUDING PERSONAL INJURY, PROPERTY DAMAGE, LOSS OF DATA, OR LOSSES ARISING FROM RELIANCE ON THE SERVICE DURING AN EMERGENCY — ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE (OR $50 IF YOU HAVE PAID NOTHING). SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN LIMITATIONS, SO SOME OF THESE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. NOTHING IN THESE TERMS LIMITS LIABILITY THAT CANNOT BE LIMITED BY LAW.

11. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Buckethead, Inc. from claims arising out of your violation of these Terms, your content, or your misuse of the Service, to the extent permitted by law.

12. Apple App Store terms

Because you get the app through Apple's App Store:

  • These Terms are between you and Buckethead, Inc. — not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
  • In the event the app fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation.
  • Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims relating to the app, including product liability, legal compliance, or intellectual property claims.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
  • You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. government embargo and are not on any U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

13. Changes

We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. If a change is material, we'll note it in the app or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Los Angeles County, California, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
